This is a fun story to read as the author struggles to fix her own meals for the first time. In the process she becomes more self-reliant, makes good friends with her housemates, and feels a sense of pride in her accomplishments.
This is a good example of teens helping teens and making a learning experience enjoyable. Can your clients think of a time one of their friends taught them how to do something? What has been their most enjoyable learning experience with adults?
Recipe sharing: Ask your clients to write down a recipe, including and step-by-step instructions for cooking it.
Go over the recipes to see if they sound right. Then collect them and use some of them (if you're in a congregate care situation). This is a good exercise in careful writing.
