Each issue of Represent includes a lesson guide for social workers, independent living coordinators, and other staff that shows how to use the stories with teens. You can download the lesson guide for any issue below.
Many of the Represent stories on this site, as well as stories from our sister publication, YCteen (formerly NYC), are accompanied by free lessons (look for this icon). Most consist of a few simple discussion questions and/or writing prompts that you can use as a jumping off point for exploring the story with your teens. Some also involve role plays or other experiential activities.
We also offer curriculum programs centered on our teen stories, including work readiness (On My Way), social and emotional learning (In Real Life for high school and #trending for middle school), positive masculinity (Real Men 2.0), and girls' empowerment (Real As Me). Each of these programs include professional development, curricula, and coaching for adults who wan to improve the social and emotional learning and literacy skills of teens.
The current lesson guide, and guides from many past issues of both magazines, are available below. |
