Discussion Questions:

• Why does Trey think he and his mother developed an unhealthy relationship? Could anything have been done to change it? What incident finally caused Trey and his other to separate?

• Why does Trey have such a productive relationship with his therapist? How does she help him think about his mother in ways he could not do by himself? What have your clients' experience been with therapy or with developing a trusting relationship with a concerned adult?

• Why does Trey forgive his mother for lying and sending him to jail? Why did he think it was important to forgive his mother? What if he didn't forgive? Could he have reestablished their relationship anyway?
