POETRY: Something We Call Life
Daishalee Torres, 15

The colors change
As the days go by
Sitting, thinking
Lying, believing
Sun, moon
Light, night
These are some things
That are in plain sight
It just hurts to see
A beauty that is abused
To see the corners of each
And every street filled
More cars on the streets
By the corners
Pride ended, money lost
People dead, gone
Parents sad
Lives lived to the quarter
And children lost
To us it’s normal
Do we know anything outside
This vicious cycle
We call life?
